Frances L. Buchanan, 90, of 31 Park Ave., Meadville, passed away Sunday, October 2nd, at Wesbury United Methodist Community.
Frances was born in Meadville on January 15, 1921, a daughter of the late George and Apolonia (Barcz) Palchuck.
She was a member of St. Brigid Roman Catholic Church and its Altar Rosary Society.
A 1946 graduate of Edinboro State Teachers College, Frances went on to earn her Masters Degree from Penn State in 1952. She continued her education by earning her Supervisory Principal Certificate in 1956 as well as her Elementary Principal Certificate in 1959. A dedicated educator, Frances retired from Crawford Central School District. She began her teaching career in 1947 teaching third grade at Neason Hill School and more than 40 years later she finished her teaching career teaching third grade at East End School. During those years she often joked that she never got passed third grade. Mrs. Buchanan was an extraordinary teacher who greatly valued education and was loved by all her students. She was an active member of Catholic Daughters of the Americas (CD of A) and a member of the Meadville Bridge Club.
Frances is survived by many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Frances was preceded in death by four sisters Mary Palchuck, Anna Sivik, Helen Cervone, Sophie Rock, four brothers John, Leonard, Tony and Ignatius Budasky.
There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Emmaline D. Barco Chapel at Wesbury, 31 Park Ave., Meadville, at 11:00 on Thursday, October 6th, with Fr. Rocco Tito officiating.
Entombment will take place in St. Brigid Cemetery, West Mead Twp.
Arrangements are under the direction of Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Brigid Roman Catholic Church, 383 Arch St., or Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community, 31 N. Park Ave. Meadville, both of Meadville, PA 16335, or a charity of the donors choice.
