Frank Edward Bell, 91, died on Saturday, September 1, 2012 after a lengthy illness. He was born December 4, 1920 in Summerville, the son of the late Harry and Catherine (Eshbaugh) Bell. On April 23, 1940, in Mercer, he married Marjorie Ella Stillwagon, who survives.
He graduated from Grove City High School, where he was a track and field athlete. He held the record for pole vault during his years in high school. He was an outstanding athlete having played various sports throughout school and within the community.
He was a Merchant Marine and then went into the U.S. Army 394th Infantry; earning two bronze stars in World War II and was in the Battle of the Bulge.
Frank was a mixologist for several years, and then became a chef at the former David Mead Inn. He also served as a university food service director for various colleges, primarily in Indiana and Pennsylvania.
He resided in the Meadville area for most of his life, having settled here with his wife after his retirement 25 years ago.
Surviving besides his wife of 73 years are four sons, Anthony Bell (and partner Jane Wieczork) of New Smyrna Beach, FL; Gary Bell of Grove City; Steve Bell (wife, Dr. Nina Bell) of Meadville; and Ross Bell (wife, Peggy Bell); three daughters, Dr. Margaret (Peggy) Smith (husband, Bill) of Port Orange, FL; Marsha Severo (husband, Louis), of Meadville; and Darby Tenon (husband, Tim) of Jacksonville, Tenn.; 15 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; 7 great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandchild, Hayden Smith.
A private viewing will be held for the immediate family. A memorial will be held at a later date.
