Frank "J. R." W. Black, Jr., 92, of 23190 Hwy. 19, Cambridge Springs, passed away Tuesday, November 8, 2016 at Crawford County Care Center, Saegertown.
Frank was born in Saegertown on February 1, 1924, a son of the late Frank W. and Katie (Luikart) Black.
On May 25, 1946 Frank married Marie F. Shunk; she preceded him in death on December 10, 2008.
After 40 years of service, Frank retired in 1986 from the former Carnation Can Company, Cambridge Springs, where he began his employment in February 1946. A veteran of WW II, Frank entered the US Army on March 10, 1943 and served his country until his honorable discharge on December 9, 1945. He was the proud recipient of the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. A life member of Venango V.F.W. Post #169, Frank was also a member of Cambridge Springs American Legion Post #381. He was a huge fan of N.A.S.C.A.R., the Cleveland Indians and the Cleveland Browns. Frank enjoyed bowling and playing cards but what he enjoyed most was spending time with his family.
Frank is survived by five children John L. Black and his wife Maria of Cambridge Springs, Terry L. Black and his wife Barbara of Harborcreek, Deborah A. Black of Cambridge Springs, Brenda E. Jones and her husband Tom of Guys Mills, Jeffory A. Black of Cambridge Springs, seven grandchildren Christopher Black and his wife Andrea, Belinda Rippon, Carrie Marraza, Erin Black, Andy Black and his wife Kim, Kyle Jones, Jamie Fausnaught, eight great grandchildren, a sister Dorothy Spitler of Ohio, numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and his wife Marie of 62 years, Frank was preceded in death by three sisters Rosa Taylor, Helen Reichel, Mary Kerr, four brothers Robert, Roy "Pappy", Clarence Black and Harry Black.
Family and friends are invited to call on Friday, November 11, 2016, from 2-4 and 7-9 at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville, PA 16335 where Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, with Rev. James R. Callender, Pastor of Church of God, Cambridge Springs, officiating.
Family and friends are also invited to attend a committal service on Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Venango Cemetery where, following Full Military Honors by VFW Post #2006, Frank will be laid to rest next to his wife, Marie.
