Gene "Butch" B. Bowley, Jr., 56, of Meadville, passed away peacefully, Friday, February 17, 2023, while holding the hands of his wife and children, at West Penn Hospital, Pittsburgh, after a four year battle with GVHD due to acute myeloid leukemia.
Butch was born in Chula Vista, CA on October 16, 1966, the son of Anna (Helbig) and the late Gene B. Bowley, Sr.
On October 10, 1992 he married Kimberly Karcher; she survives.
Since moving to Meadville, Butch attended New Beginnings Church of God. He had previously attended Alpine Bethel Church in Alpine, CA, Summit Church in Spring Valley, CA and Alpine Community Church in Alpine, CA.
Butch was employed as a Quality Control Inspector for Leech Industries during this past year. The previous four years he was employed as a Business Representative for International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers #947 (IAMAW) of CA, and prior to that he was employed as a Tool and Die Maker at G.C.E. Industries in CA for 32 years. Among his hobbies were repairing, collecting and racing Volkswagens. He had an appreciation for the desert. He enjoyed fishing, playing Dungeons and Dragons with his family, and was a sports fanatic especially when it came to the Las Vegas Raiders and the Detroit Red Wings. His greatest joy in life was his family, especially his grandchildren. He will be sincerely missed.
In addition to his wife Kimberly of 30 years, Butch is survived by two children Ashley Carter (Mitch), Christopher Bowley, both of Meadville; Angela LaBella of Santee, CA, who was like a second daughter; three grandchildren Aria Carter, Ezra Carter, Emelia Carter; his mother Anna Bowley of Chula Vista, CA; three sisters JoAnna Berger of Los Angeles, CA, Kim Wineberger (Jim) of Carlsbad, CA, Charlotte Harbin of Chula Vista, CA; a brother Ernie Matteotti (Debra) of Chula Vista, CA; his parents in law Charles and MaryCarol Karcher of Saegertown; sisters in law Beth Cave (Jeff) of Edinboro, Jill Rios (Xavi) of Meadville; brothers in law John Karcher (Tina) of MO, Charlie Karcher (Marlene) of AZ, Gilbert Gallardo (Angel) of CA; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held June 24, 2023 at 2 PM at the family's home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home, 404 Chestnut St., Meadville, PA 16335.
