Mr. George A. Harrison, 95, of 31 N. Park Ave., Meadville, passed away Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at Wesbury United Methodist Community.
Mr. Harrison was born in San Francisco, CA on July 2, 1918, the son of the late Harry P. and Leona O. (Cole) Harrison.
On September 1, 1941, George married Florence G. Allen; she preceded him in death on March 30, 2000.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Meadville. He was a former member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints of Castro Valley, CA.
After 30 years of service George retired from Pacific Bell where he was employed as a technician. During this time he also served for eight years with the Los Altos, CA Police Department as a reservist. Following his retirement in 1975 he was employed by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints of Castro Valley, CA as well as for Orchard Supply Hardware stores. A Veteran of WW II, George entered the US Navy on July 1, 1941 and served his country honorably in the Pacific Theatre until September 4, 1945. A December 1937 graduate of Balboa High School, he was also a 1939 graduate of Samuel Gompers Trade School, both of San Francisco, CA. A member of the Meadville Pioneer Club, he was a former member of the American Legion of San Francisco, Disabled American Veterans of Fresno, CA, and the Woodmen of the World Golden Gate Camp of San Francisco, CA. His hobbies included traveling with his family, golfing, making crafts, reading and collecting John Wayne videos. George loved to attend the sporting events of his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
George is survived by five daughters, Joyce Baldwin and her husband Robert of Saegertown, Nancy Esqueda and her husband Carlos of Mesa, AZ, Patricia Simpson of Livonia, MI, Janet Sastini of Stockton, CA, Gayle Heinbaugh and her husband Douglas of Spokane, WA, ten grandchildren, Robert, Beth, whom he lived with in Meadville, Tammy, David, Charlotte, Lisa, April, Dawn, Tiffany, Todd, 16 great grandchildren, two great, great grandchildren, two sisters Doris Harris and her husband Gale of Lodi, CA, Merrolyn Purchell of Sacramento, CA, many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife of 58 years, George was preceded in death by five sisters and eight brothers.
Family and friends are invited to call from 2-5 on Sunday, September 29, 2013 at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Park Ave. Ext., Meadville, with Bishop William C. Stallard officiating.
Interment with Full Military Honors by VFW Post #2006 will take place at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Meadville.
