George H. Deshner, III

George H. Deshner, III, 76, of Meadville, passed away Thursday, October 17, 2024, at UPMC-Hamot Medical Center.

George was born in Meadville, on October 25, 1947, a son of the late George H. and Betty A. (Hazelbaker) Deshner, Jr.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Meadville.

George was a graduate of Meadville High School and Edinboro College. Mr. Deshner had a long, successful career with Crawford Central School District. Hired in 1969 as a Science Teacher for the Junior High, he moved on to the Senior High as a Biology teacher in 1973. In 1976 he took on the position of Attendance Officer for four years before returning to the Junior High as Assistant Principal. In 1993 he became the principal of Meadville Area Senior High until his retirement in 2003. For a period of time, he also owned an antique store. Upon his retirement, George made great use of his time by giving back to the community. He served on countless boards and committees. He was a long time member of the Historical Society, the Crawford County Fair Board where he was elected as President in February, 2020, the PA State Fair Board Association, and he served as the General Manager of Conneaut Lake Park from 2011-2014. Over the years George had owned and had a deep appreciation for several old homes in the area and was passionate about helping others in their quest for old homes. He loved his animals, especially his cats.

During his working career and into his retirement, George truly cared about his students, teachers, fellow administrators, and all of Crawford County. He served them well. George was also very dedicated to his parents, sister, and friends. He will be sadly missed.

George is survived by many cousins including Darlene Hart of Merrill, WI; several close friends including Jeff and Janet Peters and family, Dean and Crystal Fair and family, Patricia Wagner and family, Kevin Jones, Janet Clark and Kevin Parsons.

In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his sister, Vivian Deshner.

Family and friends are invited to call from 10-11:30 AM on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 404 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE, where Funeral Services will follow at 11:30 AM with Rev. Sam Marchetta officiating.

George will be laid to rest with his family in Greendale Cemetery.
