George H. Laird, Jr.

George H. Laird, Jr., 86, of Meadville, passed away Saturday, November 11, 2023 at home, surrounded by his family.

George was born in Greenville, on November 15, 1936, a son of the late George H. and Esther E. (Brown) Laird, Sr.

On June 16, 1963 George married Judy L. Knox; she survives.

He was a member of United Presbyterian Church of the Redeemer.

George was a 1958 graduate of Thiel College. A veteran, he entered the US Army on October 1, 1961 and had over seven years of honorable service to his country. In his earlier years George was employed by the former Talon, Inc. of Meadville up until its closing; then had 25 years of service at Actco Tool, retiring in June, 1999. George was a member of Meadville Elks BPO #219, VFW Post #2006, and the Meadville Sportsman's Club. He had been a member of the Talon Men's Bowling League. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, traveling gardening, and most of all time spent with family. He will be remembered for his love of family and deep devotion to his wife, Judy. George will be greatly missed.

In addition to his wife, Judy, of 60 years, George is survived by three children Bryon G. Laird (Cathey) of Coltons Point, MD, Graig R. Laird, Lynn M. Laird-Wilson (Jeffrey), both of Meadville; seven grandchildren Patricia, Joel, Amber, Kayla, Tabitha, Jessica, Alex; five great grandchildren Brantley, Maverick, Adalaide, Oswin, Brynnli; a sister Selene McGowan of Meadville; a brother Ronald Laird (Karen) of Gastonia, NC; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by a sister Claudia M. Laird.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at Presbyterian Church of the Redeemer, 16864 Conneaut Lake Rd., Meadville, with Rev. Dr. Timothy Solomon officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made in George's memory to Presbyterian Church of the Redeemer, 16864 Conneaut Lake Rd., or VFW Post #2006, 1045 S. Morgan St., or Elks BPO #219, 14420 Baldwin St. Ext., all in Meadville, PA 16335.
