George M. Bangs, 84, of 2017 Meadville Road Titusville, passed away Tuesday, April 10th, 2012, at Meadville Medical Center.
George was born in Spartansburg on October 21, 1927, a son of the late Ralph and Elda (Boyle) Bangs.
He married Lila Arlene Vogt; she survives.
For over 25 years George was employed as an insurance agent with Columbia Accident & Health Insurance Co. Additionally he was an agricultural farmer for numerous years. A 1945 graduate of North East High School, George entered the US Marine Corps on August 14, 1945 and served his country until his honorable discharge on August 23, 1946. Georges life passion was gardening. He loved to watch his fruits and vegetable grow. His hard work and great pride showed in his abundant harvest, especially his blueberries, apples and vegetables. Occasionally George would write beautiful poetry. He enjoyed singing especially the country music of years gone by.
George is survived by four children Ralph Bangs and his wife Marian Kennedy of Pittsburgh, Stephen Bangs and his wife Rachael Christie of Cincinnati, OH, Pam Wig and her husband Bill of Spartansburg, Georgina McClellan and her husband Ben of Pittsburgh, nine grandchildren Chris and Emma Bangs, Stephen and Elizabeth Bangs, Josh and Ryan Wig, Taylor, Ryley, and Sean McClellan, four great grandchildren, five sisters Anabel Zahner and her husband Ray of Titusville, Rose Rollison of Paramus, NJ, Betty King of Wills Point, TX, Pat Stiffler and her husband Jack of Florence, AZ, Marjorie Jackson and her husband John of Dallas, TX, two brothers Dick Bangs and his wife Millie of Oil City, John Bangs and his wife Beverly of Titusville, numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by a brother Arthur Bangs, three sisters Gladys Sheets, Mary Rowe and infant Turah Bangs.
Family and friends are invited to call on Saturday, April 14, 2012,from 12-2 at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville, where a Time of Sharing will take place at 2:00 PM.
