George Michael Poraczky, Jr.

After a long illness, George Michael Poraczky, Jr., 66, of Saegertown, died at home on October 28, 2014.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Dixie (Glessner) Poraczky and two children Melissa Poraczky of Sanford, NC and Christopher Poraczky of Saegertown.

George was the third of five children born to the late George and Ann (Hamilka) Poraczky, Sr.

He is survived by two sisters Mary Lou McGeary and her husband Gerry, Barbara Blechartes and her husband Ed, a brother Nicolas Poraczky, several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Ann Marie Lloyd.

After graduating from Greater Johnstown Senior High School he joined the United States Navy. During his time in the Navy he served on the U.S.S. Shangri La. After the Navy he worked for Bethlehem Steel in Johnstown, PA. After the steel mill he took an Air Monitoring Specialist position that moved his family to Saegertown where he lived, worked and later retired from the Department of Natural Resources. Outside of work he was actively involved in his church and the Boy Scouts of America. George was always quick with a smile and generous with his laughter. He lived his life with a sense of humor that will be missed by those who knew and loved him.

Visitation will be Saturday, November 1, from 3-7 at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 330 Broad St., Saegertown, where Boy Scouts of America will conduct a service at 6:00 pm. A gathering with light refreshments will follow at St. Bernadettes Roman Catholic Church, Renner Ave., Saegertown.

Family and friends are invited to attend a graveside service at Bedford County Memorial Park, Bedford, at 2:00 PM on Sunday November 2, 2014. Full Military Honors will follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to French Creek Council, BSA 1815 Robison Road West, Erie, PA 16509 or Southern Care Hospice, 1245 Park Ave, Meadville, PA 16335.
