George "Butch" N. Wilcox, Jr., 79, of Blooming Valley, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, July, 26, 2023, at UPMC-Hamot Medical Center, Erie.
Butch was born in Erie, on April 7, 1944, a son of the late George N. and Shirley (Reynolds) Wilcox, Sr.
On May 8, 1992 he married the love of his life, Judith D. Kantz; she survives.
He was a member of Woodcock United Methodist Church.
Butch attended Meadville High School prior to enlisting in the US Army at the age of 17, where he served his country honorably as a member of the 25th Infantry Division. He was discharged May 2, 1964. Later he became employed by Conrail and after many years of service he retired as a Conductor in 1978. Not one to remain idle, the following year he and his wife Judy bought Butch's Pub. Together they put their hearts and souls in the business and were proud of their award winning wings and the great rapport they had with their customers. A member of Venango VFW Post #169, Butch was also a member of Saegertown American Legion Post #205, and a 25 year member of Blooming Valley Volunteer Fire Department where he served as an officer. For many years Butch coached Saegertown baseball and to this day, was remembered as a father figure to many of his players and was known as a superior coach. He loved attending all the sporting events of his grandsons. He was a huge Yankees fan and was an avid NASCAR enthusiast, always partial to Dale Ernhardt, whom he was proud to personally meet. In his earlier years he attended every NASCAR race that was run on every track. Butch loved life and his family greatly and was greatly loved in return. He will be sadly missed.
