Gerald J. Roncolato

Gerald J. Roncolato, 96, of Meadville, Pa, died Saturday, December 5, 2020 in Grace Nursing Home, Wesbury Retirement Community of Covid-19.

Born in Allentown, Pennsylvania, January 4, 1924, Jerry was the son of Italian immigrants, John and Mary Roncolato. He married Polly Sauerman (Pauline) on July 12, 1947. She preceded him in death in 2002. A graduate of Allentown High School, Jerry enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1943. During World War II, he served combat duty in the Atlantic and Pacific.  Returning home, he attended Moravian College and went on to complete an MBA from Harvard University. He held multiple positions in business management, including the president of Roblin Steel, Buffalo NY.

The great loves of Jerry’s life were his wife “butch”, two sons, six grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren. He imparted to each of them the value of family, friends, integrity, and hard work. He was a devout Catholic who found community in the Order of the Knights of Columbus, peace in nightly prayers with his son, and service through the making and sharing of rosaries.

Jerry is survived by son, Captain Gerard D. Roncolato, USN (retired) of Bristow, VA, who, like his father, served in the United States Navy, son Dr. David P. Roncolato, Allegheny College, and his spouse the Reverend Sarah D. Roncolato, Stone United Methodist Church.

In addition, he is survived by grandchildren Carolyn Roncolato (Mike Allgeier) Chicago IL., Leanne Roncolato (Alex Roomets) Lancaster, PA., Daniel Roncolato (Kylie) Springfield OH, Jonathan Roncolato, Nashville TN., Nicholas Roncolato (Juliana) Sherman Oaks, CA., Joseph Roncolato (Ellie Whitt), Manassas, VA, and great-grandchildren Lola, Desi, Brody, Buckley, Briggs, Benjamin, Carter, and Kai.

Jerry Roncolato’s life motto: “No problems, only opportunities.” His longevity can be attributed to his positive outlook and good red wine.

The family is particularly thankful for the outstanding care and love “Gerardo” received during his eleven years as a part of the Wesbury Retirement Community.

A Memorial Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 1 PM on Saturday, May 29, 2021, at St. Brigid Roman Catholic Church, 383 Arch Street, Meadville, with Fr. Jerome Simmons officiating. CDC guidelines will be followed.
