Glenn R. Courson, 89, of 31 N. Park Ave., Meadville, formerly of 1085 Plateau Drive, Meadville, passed away Thursday, January 7, 2016, at Wesbury United Methodist Community.
Glenn was born at home in Knox, Clarion County, on March 30, 1926, a son of the late Orville Guy and Ruth Ida (Sloan) Courson.
On September 18, 1948, Glenn married Bebe C. Dalessio; she preceded him in death on May 1, 2004.
He was a member of St. Agatha Roman Catholic Church, Meadville.
In 1991 Glenn retired from Seco Warwick, formerly known as Sunbeam Corporation, where he worked since 1965 as a structural welder/fitter. He had previously been employed as a short haul truck driver for the former Smith Brother Company, by PennDOT, and he had also worked as a heavy equipment operator. A veteran, Glenn enlisted in the US Navy on August 15, 1944 and served his country until his honorable discharge on February 22, 1946. He attended schools in Clarion County. Over the years he had been a member of the former Holy Name Society of St. Mary's Church, the Meadville Handgun Club, the National Rifle Association and a social member of the I.C.C. Glenn enjoyed time spent with family, especially working on cars with his son, Bob, in his garage. He will be sadly missed.
Glenn is survived by a son Robert A. Courson and his wife Barbara, a daughter Patti Jo Duda and her husband Frank, both of Meadville, four grandchildren Jennifer Thoreson and her husband Chris, Tom Duda and his wife Ashley, Rachelle Poland and her husband Dan, Tim Courson, four great granddaughters Isabella and Aubrey Thoreson, Lana and Evelyn Poland, a great grandson expected in April, two sisters Ruth Bailey of Cochranton, Helen Altman of Knox, a brother in law George Bidwell of Saegertown, several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and his wife Bebe of 55 years, Glenn was preceded in death by eight sisters Nellie Neupert, Addeline Reznor, Ethel Lindal, Beatrice Mays, Edna Eddy, Violet Whitesell, Jean Kellogg, Florence Hamilton, three brothers James, Ernest and Orville Courson, his mother in law, Josephine Dalessio, who was "the best mother in law in the world", a brother in law Patrick Dalessio and his wife JoAnn, four sisters in law Ethel Lovecchio and her husband Sam, Philomena Consider and her husband Paul, Rose Vardaro and her husband Marty and Jeanne Bidwell.
Family and friends are invited to call on Sunday from 2-6 PM at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville, where a Scripture Service will be held at 6 PM.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 10 AM at St. Mary of Grace Roman Catholic Church, 1085 Water St., Meadville, with Fr. Matthew Kujawinski, Pastor, officiating.
Glenn will be laid to rest with his wife, Bebe, in St. Brigid Cemetery, West Mead Twp. Full Military Honors by VFW Post #2006 will follow.
