Hawley Lewis 'Brownie' Brown, 86, of 16681 Valley Rd., Meadville, passed away Wednesday, December 4, 2013, at Meadville Medical Center following a sudden illness.
He was born on the family farm in Hayfield Twp. on June 5, 1927, a son of the late Gilbert and Marie (Linn) Brown.
On December 20, 1965 Brownie married Doris Reichel; she survives.
A hard working man all of his life, Brownie was employed by the former American Viscose for 43 years where he worked in the Spinning Dept. He was also employed by Spruce Row Dairy for 20 years. Following his retirement he began another career with Penncrest School District where he worked in the Saegertown schools for an additional 15 years, retiring again at age 78. Although Brownie worked tirelessly, he was never too busy to lend a hand to anyone in need. A WW II Veteran, Brownie entered the US Army on September 14, 1945 and served his country until his honorable discharge on July 12, 1946. Brownie took great pride in having a helping hand in rearing his grandchildren. He took even greater joy in spoiling his great grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Doris of 47 years, Brownie is survived by their blended family Melanie Mushrush, Ralph Woge and his companion Samantha, Max Woge, Valerie Craft and her husband Bob, Rudy Woge and his wife Shelly, Waldo Woge and his wife Missy, Betty Swogger and her husband Jim, Timothy Brown and his companion Patti, Terry Brown and his companion Shari, their children Paul and Molly Brown, his grandchildren Stephanie, Jamie, Susan, J.R., Ryan, Colton, Orry, Bobby, Tad, Michelle, Nick, Rhiannon, Stephanie, Nicole, Misty, Little Lee, Jenna, Thomas, Brian, Jason, John, Eddie, Julie, Laura, Jeremy, Michael, Tim, Cindy, Jenny, Jeremiah, Jessica and Nicole, numerous great grandchildren, two sisters Rose Davis, June Lohr and her husband Bob, two daughters in law Karen Brown, Sherry Brown, many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Brownie was preceded in death by three children Michael Brown, David Brown, Lynette Woge-Sutter, an honorary son John Allen, a grandson Robert, a great granddaughter Natasha, a brother Ray Brown, three sisters Lucille Tino, Marilou Gilmore and Marjorie Gribbin.
Family and friends are invited to call on Saturday, December 7, 2013, from 11-1 at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 330 Broad St., Saegertown, where Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM with Matt Koehler officiating.
