She married Chester Leroy Whitmer on June 1, 1946; they had three children, Barbara Grace, Deborah Mae and Daniel Leroy. Chester preceded her in death on March 5,1981. She was also preceded in death by her daughter Barbara G. Valella on December 25, 2015, and several siblings, Willis Whitling, Harold Whitling, Walter Whitling, Helen O’Neil, Merrill Whitling, Donald Whitling, Norman Whitling, and Ester Neel.
She is survived by her daughter Deborah Todd of Galloway, OH and her grandson Jason Bisbee of Fort Worth, TX, along with his wife Kanitha and her great-grandson Jaden Maxwell Bisbee. She is further survived by a sister Joanne Brooks of FL, a sister in law Allene Whitmer of Indiana and several nieces and nephews.
Hazel was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene where she was honored by the Pittsburgh district for her work with the children. She went on a mission trip to Guatemala where she supported the works as they built a new school. Her faith was very important to her and knowing that she finished well is an added blessing to all. She took a trip to Germany where her son in law was stationed. She was accompanied by her son Daniel and her daughter Deborah. It was an amazing trip. Hazel enjoyed being a homemaker and she also worked outside the home at the school cafeteria when her children were young so she could be home with them. She later worked at G.C Murphy where as head cashier and following her retirement, she went back to work at Fisher Big Wheel where she managed the Toy Department. When her working days were behind her, she lived with her daughter Barbara Valella in Meadville and later with Deborah Todd of Galloway, OH, where she resided for the past 9 years.
Hazel enjoyed spending time with her church family, her children and grandchildren. She liked gardening, canning, and she was an excellent cook. She enjoyed family reunions, traveling and had been on several trips to Chicago, Vermont, Destin and Orlando with her family and friends. She lived a full life and was loved by all. She will be missed.
Family and friends are invited to call from 2-4 and 7-9 on Friday, September 30, at STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 404 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE, where Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 on Saturday, October 1, with Rev. Marshall Lillie officiating.
