Hazel Schwavey McLaughlin, 95, of 455 Chestnut Street, Meadville, passed away Tuesday, December 4, 2018 at Juniper Village.
Hazel was born in Meadville, on April 26, 1923, a daughter of the late Charles and Mary (McFadden) Schwavey.
On January 23, 1948, Hazel married Leonard R. McLaughlin; he preceded her in death October 10, 2004.
She was a member of Pleasantview Alliance Church, Saegertown, and previously been a member of the First Baptist Church, Meadville and it's MCR Class.
For several years Hazel had been employed as a telephone operator for the former Meadville Telephone, the former Bell Telephone and many other business in the Meadville Area. She graduated from Meadville High School in 1940 and had been a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star. An avid Cleveland Indians fan, Hazel also enjoyed knitting, sewing and playing cards; even well into her 90's. She will be sadly missed.
Hazel is survived by four children, Thomas McLaughlin of Meadville, Elizabeth Blyler and her husband Mel of Erie, Amy McLaughlin and her partner Angie Mattingly of Philadelphia, Gayle Sexton of Meadville, four grandchildren, Joshua Kulick of Erie, Erin Stanczyk and her husband Adam of Erie, Tiffany Joyner and her husband Michael of Greensboro, NC, Marcie Allegretti and her husband Brian of Erie, five great grandchildren, Zak Stanczyk, Max Stanczyk, Ethan Kulick, Madyson Kulick, Niko Pherribo and two on the way.
In addition to her parents and her husband Leonard of 56 years Hazel was preceded in death by three sisters, Zella Young, Norma Baloun and Hazel's twin sister, Helen, who died at the age of five.
Family and friends are invited to call Thursday, December 6, 2018, from 6-8 PM at STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 404 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE, where funeral services will be held on Friday at 11:00 AM with nephew, Rev. Ralph Porter, officiating.
Hazel will be laid to rest in Greendale Cemetery.
