Helen "Peggy" M. Schreckengost

September 26, 1947 — April 17, 2025

Meadville

Helen M. “Peggy” Schreckengost (Furno) passed on April 17, 2025. She is now with the Love of her life: Bob.

Born on a Friday in September of 1947, Peg began her trek. She talked fondly about growing up in “The Fifth Ward” where “everyone was the same and took care of each other.” Always an independent spirit, she emancipated prior to graduating from Meadville High School in 1965. It was July 5, 1968 when she married Bob “Schreck” Schreckengost and her life truly began to enrich. Together they faced trials that would end most unions and lived with a zest for 54 years!

Among the many jobs she held (Woolworth, Pizza Villa, Montgomery Ward, Kittel’s Kniche, Dahlkemper’s) Peg was an insurance agent for State Farm for over 30 years. She is known throughout Meadville and most everyone kindly remarks how incredibly helpful she always was to them. Mom lived her life devoted to others, supporting them. She spent her later years as a care giver assuring her clients had the utmost quality of life. Her life quote which she followed vigorously was “You never regret being kind.”

Their two children Tanya and Andy are in Peg’s words “Our best accomplishment by far.” A lot could be written about how she loved her children and why, but this obituary is not about them.

Survivors include a daughter Tanya Schreckengost, son Andy (Darlene) Schreckengost, grandchildren Bradie Parsons, Haylie Damond (Patrick) and a host of notable special people who would undoubtedly make this the most expensive obituary in Meadville Tribune history. There is one person whose tireless efforts in loving, supporting, and being there are noted: Darlene Schreckengost.

She was preceded in death by her sister Joann Marinelli.
