Helen Rebecca Shaffer, 91, of 646 Euclid Ave., Saegertown, formerly of 1120 Market St., Meadville, passed away Thursday, August 26, 2010 at Rolling Fields Nursing Home, Conneautville.
Helen was born in Slippery Rock on February 17, 1919, a daughter of the late Ira E. and Bertha Mary (Blair) White.
On July 31, 1935 Helen married Everett 'Bill' W. Shaffer; he preceded her in death on February 2, 1989.
She was a member of Saegertown United Methodist Church, Saegertown.
In 1982 Helen retired from Penncrest School District where she had been employed as a Cafeteria Worker at Saegertown High School for 13 years. Previously she had been employed by several area restaurants. She was a 1935 graduate of Princeton High School, Lawrence County. Her hobbies included reading, quilting and making crafts.
Helen is survived by four children Robert C. Shaffer and his wife Frances of New Castle, Dorothy Beck of Meadville, Linda Twiford and her husband Warren of Morresville, NC, Kenneth Shaffer and his wife Linda of Saegertown, 19 grandchildren including two granddaughters Cynthia Ann Allen and Carol Lynn Kohler whom she raised, 32 great grandchildren, twelve great great grandchild, two sisters, Hazel Harriger of New Castle, Lois Roberts and her husband William of Athens, OH, several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her husband Everett 'Bill' Shaffer of 54 years, Helen was preceded in death by two sons Norman Dale Shaffer, John W. Shaffer, a great grandson Brandon Shaffer and a great great granddaughter Chloe Kohler.
Family and friends are invited to call on Sunday from 2-4 at Stephen P Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 330 Broad St., Saegertown and Monday from 12-1 at Saegertown United Methodist Church, 620 Euclid Ave, Saegertown.
Funeral Services will be held at Saegertown United Methodist Church, 620 Euclid Ave, Saegertown, at 1:00 PM on Monday, August 30, 2010 with Rev. Kenneth Custer, Pastor, officiating.
Interment will take place in Graceland Cemetery, New Castle.
