Henry Vernier, 90 of Meadville, passed away Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh, after a short illness.
Henry was born on June 3, 1923 in Meadville to the late Earl A. and Adelaide (Rushlander) Vernier.
He was a graduate of Meadville High School, class of 1942.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Sara McCurdy Vernier. Other survivors include his four children, Paul E. Vernier and his wife Loretta of Brevard, NC, Donald H. Vernier and his wife Debra of Linesville, Mary Ann Steinbeck and her husband Thomas, Patricia Koehler and her husband John, both of Meadville, eleven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Edward E. Vernier.
Henry worked in local industry, life insurance and auto sales. He also worked for several years as a civilian inspector for the US Army, Cleveland Ordnance District, of Erie. In 1963 he began a 20 year career with the City of Meadville as the Health Officer and Housing Inspector, retiring in 1983. Henry was a life member of the former Meadville Rescue Squad and Meadville SCORE. Other memberships included the Historical Society and Meadville Elks Club. He was a life long member of St. Brigid Roman Catholic Church, Meadville.
Family and friends are invited to call on Saturday, April 26, 2014, in the gathering area of St. Brigid Roman Catholic Church, 383 Arch St., from 10:00-10:45 AM, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM with Fr. Johnathan Schmolt, Pastor, officiating.
Henry will be laid to rest in Greendale Cemetery.
