Henry Zazitski, 87, of Meadville, passed away Saturday, August 24, 2019, at Meadville Medical Center. His family was with him for this final journey.
Henry was born in Meadville, on January 9, 1932. He had an adventurous childhood with his friends of the Willow and South Main street area of Meadville. He was on the football team and a javelin thrower of the Meadville track team and graduated from Meadville High School in 1949-50.
After 41 years of service, Henry retired from Talon, Inc. of Meadville, where he was a Tool and Die Maker. Henry also was an instructor for the tool and die apprentice program. He served as the chief negotiator for the Talon Toolmaker Union. Henry was also a Deputy for the PA Fish and Boat Commission for 30 years, retiring in 2007. His badge was officially retired at that time. His first employment was at the Meadville Bread Company. Henry was a veteran of the US Army, serving with the Heavy Mortar Company during the Korean Conflict, stationed in Germany. He served his country honorably from 1950-1952. He was a member of American Legion Post #111 and VFW Post #2006.
Henry belonged to the former PPG Trap League, Cochranton Sportsman's Club. He also had membership with the Meadville Sportsman's Club and Saegertown Sportsman's Club. He served as Vice President for the Crawford County Sportsman's Council and held various offices in the Talon Credit Union, which is now One Federal Credit Union. He volunteered with the RSVP Senior Program, doing doe licenses and water testing with the ESIA division of French Creek Valley Conservancy.
An outdoor enthusiast, Henry enjoyed shooting trap, hunting, fishing, camping and many successful hunting trips to Colorado for elk and Canada for Moose and Bear. He also enjoyed times with his family and friends.
On May 10, 1980, Henry married Jane Allison Barnes. He was formerly married to Hazel Whitman.
In addition to his wife, Jane, of 39 years, Henry is survived by daughter Desiree Vaughn of Cochranton and her children Tony Birtciel (fiance Heather Myers) Christina Whitmore (Bruce); the children of his late son, Henry, Daniel, Heather, Matthew, Dulcey Zazitski (fiance Brian); an adopted son Ryan Kareha; and daughter Peggy Shongo of Bradenton, FL. He is further survived by step-son Richard Barnes of Columbus, OH and his children Jonathan (fiance Sheridan Farnell), Eric (fiance Paige Robnett), Heather Barnes; step daughter Linda Dodds (Bill) of Sunbury, OH and their children Darren, Katie, Joshua, Dalton Dodds, and four great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Henry was preceded in death by a son, Henry E. Zazitski; a grandson Kim E. Shongo II; and a son-in-law Ralph Vaughn.
Family and friends are invited to call 1:30-3:30 PM on Saturday, August 31, 2019 at STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 404 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE, where a Celebration of Life Service will be held at 3:30 with Rev. Rodney A. Johnson officiating. Full Military Honors by VFW Post #2006 will follow.
Henry will be laid to rest in Greendale Cemetery, West Mead Township.
