Herman "Herm" B. Battles

Herman "Herm" B. Battles, 89, of Saegertown, passed away suddenly on Saturday, November 27, 2021, at home.

Herm was born in Meadville, on October 3, 1932, a son of the late Darrell and Laurena (Whitman) Battles.

On October 16, 1965 Herm married his beloved Velma Reichel; she preceded him in death on June 29, 2014.

Herm was a graduate of Meadville High School and the former Crawford County Vo-Tech. At age 17 he joined the Reserves and proudly served as a US Navy Reservist. In his earlier years he was employed by McCroskey Tool, then Meadville Precision Tool which later became know as C & J, retiring at age 65. Following his retirement, Herm was delighted to work for his son Jeff at Lakeland Precision Inc. He was a member and former Chief of West Mead #1 Volunteer Fire Department. He was a founding member of the Crawford County Fire School and was proud to have witnessed the building of all three of the volunteer fire stations. He enjoyed traveling and had especially fond memories of his trips with Velma to Alaska and Hawaii as well as traveling out West with his son, Jeff. When he was younger he enjoyed hunting. One of his favorite past times was reading his bible. Herm had a kind and gentle spirit. He will be sadly missed.

Herm is survived by his children Jeff S. Battles (Alice) of Conneaut Lake, Darrell Battles, Donna Needler, both of Meadville; his grandchildren including Kylee, Logan and Maggie who were the light of his life; sister in law Laurie Johnston (Dale) of Meadville, brother in law David (Joyce) Reichel of Blooming Valley; nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and his wife Velma of 48 years, Herm was preceded in death by a sister Shirley Johnston.

Family and friends are invited to call from 3-6 PM on Thursday, December 2, 2021, at STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 404 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE, where Funeral Services will follow at 6 PM with Pastor Dan Mealey of Lake Church, Conneaut Lake, officiating.

Herm will be laid to rest next to his wife, Velma, in Saegertown Cemetery.
