Herman Richard Sheriff, 77, formerly of 631 Euclid Ave, Saegertown, passed away Monday, August 16th, 2010 at Crawford County Care Center where he had been a resident and a patient of AseraCare Hospice.
Herman was born in Meadville, on November 30, 1932, a son of the late Willard Richard and Ida Mae (Dinkeldein) Sheriff. He was raised in Saegertown by his mother and step father Clifford F. Jobe.
On December 8, 1953 Herman married his childhood sweetheart, Ida C. Swift; she survives.
He was a member of Saegertown United Methodist Church where he served several terms as a trustee.
In 1994 Herman retired from Saegertown Borough where he had worked in the Water and Maintenance Departments. Previously he had been a self-employed barber, opening his own shop in 1963 after having worked as a barber for Carmine Baiera. During his high school years he was employed by the former Union Gas Station on Main Street, Saegertown. Herman attended Saegertown schools where he was a member of the first Football Team, first Gymnastics Team and Baseball Team. He was the 1953 Senior Class President of the first class to graduate from North Street School. He was a US Army Veteran serving from 1953 until 1955 having been deployed in Colorado, Germany and France. Following his retirement from Saegertown Borough, Herman discovered a talent of making clever and beautiful things from scrap wood and vinyl siding. His talents earned him several prizes at the Crawford County Fair. A long time member of the Saegertown Fire Police, he was also a member of the Saegertown Lions Club where he served two terms as King Lion, a member of Saegertown American Legion, Saegertown Sportsman Club and Meadville Field Archers. He enjoyed most any outdoor activity especially family camping trips, hiking, summer and winter picnics and traveling to see Gods beautiful creation. He loved going to Canada with the guys. He enjoyed his friends both old and new and never found fault with anyone. Most of all he loved to make people laugh.
In addition to his wife Ida of 56 years, Herman is survived by two daughters Tina Elton and her husband Clifford of Pittsburgh, Susan Fuller and her husband William of Meadville, a son Richard A. Sheriff and his wife Laurie of Warren, two granddaughters Heather Fuller of Pittsburgh, Hannah Nolan of Warren, 2 grandsons Bradley Fuller of Pittsburgh, Quincy Nolan of Warren, two brothers C. Wayne Jobe and his wife Charlotte of Meadville, Lynn H. Jobe and his wife Judy of Saegertown, three nieces Loraine Landran and her husband Fred of Pittsburgh, Robin Walsh and her husband Joe of Pittsburgh, Michele Little and her husband David of Nevada, one nephew Michael Jobe of Saegertown, an aunt Martha Baker and her husband Bob of Venango, 17 Exchange Student grandchildren, 7 Exchange Student great grandchildren Miho and Tim Bradley and their daughter Magnolia May, Christina Ottson Lundergard and their son and daughter, Connie Kilchor, Roney and Renata Seraino and their two sons Lucas and Edwardo, Dr. Lazaros Petrides and his wife Hellen and their daughter Hellena, Sebastian Gruenertt, Tania Stein, Marieke Debruijn and daughter Juli, Anu, Lars Hinrichs, Jakob Werk, Marco Coluccia, Claudia Aden, Hellena Brinckmann, Chutima Shupasertsook and Yazan Halawa.
In addition to his parents, Herman was preceded in death by his step father.
Family and friends are invited to call on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 at Stephen P Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc.. 330 Broad Street, Saegertown, PA 16433.
Funeral Services will be held at Saegertown United Methodist Church, Saegertown, 620 Euclid Ave, Saegertown, at 11:00 AM on Friday, August 20th, with Rev. Kenneth Custer, Pastor, officiating.
