Frances Marilyn Hornyak, 83, of 31 N. Park Ave., Meadville, formerly of 717 Edgewood Circle, State College and Erie, passed away on July 18, 2015 at Wesbury United Methodist Community, Meadville.
Frances was born in Erie, on January 20, 1932, a daughter of the late Frank and Vivian (Hevner) Wolf.
On September 8, 1951, Frances married John A. Hornyak; he preceded her in death on December 24, 2004.
While living in Erie, Frances was a member of St. Luke's Roman Catholic Church and while living in State College, a member of Our Lady of Victory Parish. Regardless of where she was living, she was an active volunteer of her parish, donating her time and talents in various ways.
Frances graduated from the former Academy High School, Erie. She was an avid reader and had an extensive library. She enjoyed spending time with family, collecting antiques and playing Bridge. Frances took great pride in being a loving and dedicated homemaker. Throughout her adult life, she placed her family first and cherished being able to take great care of her husband, children and grandchildren. She will be remembered for the love and attention she gave each and every one of them.
Frances is survived by five children, Linda Geiger and her husband David of Meadville, Debra Hornyak of Pittsburgh and fiance Chris, Diane Webb and her husband Doug of Winston Salem, N.C., John M. Hornyak and his wife Kristin of Round Hill, VA, James Hornyak of Lock Haven and fiance Sandy Roth; eight grandchildren, Michael Sell, David Geiger, Mark Geiger and his fiance' Rachael Gregor, Krista Webb, J.T. Hornyak, Keira Hornyak, Jessica Hornyak, Katelyn Hornyak; two sisters, Carol Franz and her husband Joseph of Burke, VA, Janet Shay of Rochester, NY, and a sister-in-law, Mary Wolf of Erie, sister-in-law Judy Hornyak of Erie; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband John of 53 years and her parents, Frances was preceded in death by a brother James Wolf and a brother-in-law Gordon Shay.
Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
Frances will be laid to rest next to her husband, John, in Calvary Cemetery, Erie.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation in memory of Frances Marylyn Hornyak, 4401 Penn Avenue, Pittsburgh PA 15224.
