Hugh J. Mumford

Hugh J. Mumford, 75, of Guys Mills, passed away Sunday, December 15, 2024, at UPMC-Shadyside Hospital.

Hugh was born in Meadville, on November 27, 1949, a son of the late Hugh D. and Cleola (Carpenter) Mumford.

On July 2, 1976, Hugh married Judith "Judy" A. Anderson; she survives. 

A hard worker all of his life, Hugh began working on the family farm at a very young age and at the age 18, he took full charge of the farm. He had also worked at Agway Petroleum. A graduate of Townville High school, Hugh also graduated from Edinboro College earning his Social Studies Teaching Certificate as well as his Driver's Education Teaching Certificate. His love of farming, operating and fixing his machinery, and anything to do with raising his beef cattle was always with him. His little time away from the farm included serving his country honorably from February 16, 1970, until December 11, 1971, as a member of the US Army, where most of his service time was spent in Alaska as a Meteorologist. Hugh will be remembered for his work ethic, great strength, positive disposition, and amazing sense of humor. He will be sadly missed.

In addition to his wife, Judith, of 48 years, Hugh is survived by a daughter, Cammie Sands (Jim) of Saegertown; two grandchildren Cy VanCise (Jade), Livia VanCise (fiance' Chris Guy); two step grandchildren Madalyn Gillingham, Jesse Sands and family; a sister Linda Mumford of MA; two brothers Mark Mumford of Lincoln, VT, David Mumford (Madalena) of Townville; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

A Celebration of Life for family and friends will be held from 2-5 PM on Saturday, December 21, 2024, at The Mumford Farm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
