Mr. J. Michael Buzza, 80, of Meadville, passed away Friday, February 18, 2022, at UPMC Hamot of Erie.
Mike was born in Meadville on November 20, 1941, the son of the late Richard and Anita W. (Watson) Buzza.
On June 17, 1967, Mike married Kathleen "Kathy" Hamilton; she survives.
He was a member of St. Brigid Roman Catholic Church where he served as an Eucharist Minister and usher.
Mike retired from Palmiero Toyota in 2008 where he had been employed since 1994. He previously had been employed by UPS for 24 years as a driver, the former Dahlkemper's for eight years, and DeSantis Solutions for six years. Graduating from Meadville High School in 1959, he was a member of the undefeated Bulldog Football team of 1957. A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, Mike served his country from March 3, 1960, until his honorable discharge on December 23, 1963. An active member of his community, Mike was a former member of the Meadville Jaycees where he served as president and was a Jaycees Senator in the state of Pennsylvania. Working as a referee and senior official for the Little Gridders Football Program for over 30 years, was a great source of satisfaction and pride for Mike. He was a member of the Board of Directors for the Meadville Area Youth Baseball and Softball Association, where he also volunteered as a baseball coach. A member of the Board of Directors for 7th and 8th Grade Football, Mike also ran the time clock for Meadville High School Football for 35 years and Allegheny College Football for over 20 years. In Mike's earlier years he was active in Meadville Community Theater, the Academy Theater and loved performing in the former Charity Follies. Mike's hobbies included fishing, golfing, and was an avid Pittsburgh Steeler football fan.
In addition to his wife Kathy of 54 years, Mike is survived by two children Kim Buzza of Myrtle Beach, SC, Kevin Buzza (Marianne) of Meadville, one grandson Jason Cooper.
In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by a brother Timothy Buzza, his stepfather F. L. Alexander, stepbrothers Richard, James and David "Mike" Alexander.
Family and friends are invited to call from 4-8 PM on Tuesday, February 22, 2022, at STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 404 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE, where a Scripture Service will be held at 7:30 PM.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM on Wednesday, at The Epiphany of the Lord Parish, St. Brigid Roman Catholic Church, 383 Arch St., Meadville, with Fr. Jeffrey Lucas, Pastor, officiating. For those not able to attend, the Mass will be livestreamed via the funeral home facebook page, Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc.
Mike will be laid to rest in St. Brigid Cemetery, with Full Military Honors by VFW Post #2006.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Epiphany of the Lord Parish, 353 Pine Street, or Yolanda G. Barco Oncology Institute, 16792 Conneaut Lake Road, or Veterans of the Vietnam War Jack Greer Memorial Post #52, PO Box 771, all in Meadville, PA 16335.
