James A. Acker

James A. Acker, 92, of 16754 Mosiertown Rd., Saegertown, passed away Thursday, May 18, 2017, at Meadville Medical Center.
 
James was born at home in Coons Corners, on September 4, 1924, a son of the late John and Hazel (Battles) Acker.
 
On June 16, 1950, James married Bessie A. Smith; she preceded him in death on July 12, 2014.
 
He was a member of Hamlin Chapel, Coons Corners.
 
Over the years James had been employed by the former Talon, Inc., the former Keystone View Company and the former Sunbeam Corporation, later known as Seco-Warwick.  In addition he had worked for himself farming and as an auto mechanic.  A World War II veteran, James entered the US Army on March 10, 1943 and served his country honorably until his discharge on December 21, 1945.  He attended school at Blacks Corners.  James was a lifetime member of the Pioneer Steam Engine Society.  For many years James enjoyed knitting countless hats and donated them to various schools and organizations. 
 
James is survived by a son James A. Acker of Culpepper, VA, a daughter Janet A. Gaspard and her husband Bradley of Fairfax, VA, a granddaughter Rebecca Gaspard and her husband Anthony Lanza, a granddaughter Sarah Gaspard, a sister Beatrice V. Shorts and her husband Ed of Coons Corners, a brother Jack E. Acker and his wife Phyllis of Saegertown, many nieces and nephews.
 
In addition to his parents and his wife Bessie of 64 years, James was preceded in death by two sisters Lois Moore, Marion Ferguson and a brother Kenneth Acker.
 
Family and friends are invited to call on Sunday, May 21, from 2-5 at STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 330 BROAD ST., SAEGERTOWN, where Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, with Rev. Jeff Bobin, Pastor of Hamlin Chapel, officiating.
 
James will be laid to rest next to his wife, Bessie, in Acker-Roger Cemetery, Hayfield Twp.
