Mr. James Duncan, Sr., 70, of 20276 Barton Rd., Meadville, passed away Wednesday, June 30th, 2010 at St. Vincent Health System, Erie.
James was born in Hammond, LA on November 6, 1939, to the union of the late Thomas and Emma (Brown) Duncan.
A veteran, Jim served his country in the US Army from May 22, 1956 until his honorable discharge on April 18, 1958. During his service time he participated in boxing for the Army. In 1958 James moved to Benton Harbor, MI where he worked several years for Clark Equipment in Buchanan, MI. He later relocated to Meadville where he started his own construction company. Jim enjoyed playing B.I.N.G.O. at the Meadville Sertoma Club. James will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
James is survived by two sons James Allen Duncan and his wife Shannon, Thomas C. Duncan both of Meadville, three daughters Danita Green of Milwaukee, WI, Emily Duncan and her husband Odell of Perris, CA, Mary Parker of San Bernardino, CA, two brothers Thomas Duncan, Willie Duncan and his wife Reathor both of Benton Harbor, MI, two sisters Kathryn Layton of New Orleans, LA, Nell M. Hills of Benton Harbor, MI, four step children, 33 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents Thomas and Emma (Brown) Duncan, James was preceded in death by a son James Duncan, Jr. and a brother Henry Duncan.
Family and friends are invited to call on Thursday from 9-11 AM at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville, where A Homecoming Service will be conducted at 11:00 AM.
Interment with Full Military Honors will take place in Greendale Cemetery, West Mead Twp.
