James G. Bird

James G. Bird, 75 of 729 Washington Street Meadville, passed away Sunday, September 16, 2012, at Select Specialty Hospital of Erie.
James was born in Marietta, Ohio on September 3, 1937, a son of the late Derry and Graham Gloster (Otey) Bird.On July 2, 1963 Jim married Tessie Severo; she survives.
He was affiliated with St. Mary of Grace Roman Catholic Church, Meadville.
After 32 years of service Jim retired as a sales rep from the former G.T. I. Beginning his carrier as a set up employee, he worked his way up to foreman and then to a project engineer. Following his graduation from Meadville High School in 1956, he served his country from July 31, 1956 until his honorable discharge on July 28, 1958 from the US Marine Corp. He was a member of VFW Post #2006, Italian Civic Club (ICC), and was a former member of the Meadville Eagles Club. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, golfing and in his younger years shooting skeet.
In addition to his wife Tessie of 49 years, Jim is survived by a son James N. Bird of Meadville, a daughter Valerie Bird-Stanford and her husband Craig of Richmond, VA, a brother Derry Bird and his wife Nancy of Factoryville, a brother-in-law Russell Paquette of Meadville, numerous nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by a sister Kate Paquette.
At the familys request there will be no visitation.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 22, 2012, at St. Mary of Grace Roman Catholic Church, 1085 Water St., Meadville, with Fr. Matthew Kujawinski, Pastor of St. Agatha Roman Catholic Church, officiating. Full military honors by VFW Post #2006 will follow.
Interment will take place at St. Brigid Cemetery, West Mead Twp.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville, PA.
