James "Jamie" Raymond Potts, Jr.

James “Jamie” Raymond Potts, Jr., beloved son, brother, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend passed peacefully to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, August 25, 2024 at home in the presence of family and friends.

Born May 23, 1960, the third son of James and Eleanor Potts, he endured growing up with two older siblings and one annoying little brother. Jamie was a1978 graduate of Meadville Senior High, a skilled tradesman and father of two beautiful children.

Jamie’s travels would lead him to work throughout the southern US and Western PA as a Union brick layer and stone mason before settling in Marion, Ohio. 

After working for local contractors in Marion County and finding sobriety, Jamie took a position with Buckeye Family Treatment Center where he advanced to Maintenance Supervisor and later transitioned into an administrative role with Day One Intergrative Services; a state-of-the art evidence based treatment center for mental health and substance abuse treatment.

This is where Jamie found his true passion and calling; helping others in recovery. He was a true advocate; Peer Support Certified and served on the board of the non-profit Marion Direct. Jamie chaired and participated in many events in support of his community, touching many lives, as many touched his.

Survivors include his son, Stefan (Lora); his devoted chosen sister, Shirley Parrott-Copus; his loving companion, Elizabeth Hickle; mother, Eleanor; brothers Jeffery, David (Linda); sister-in-law, Patricia; grandchildren, Amor and Ivy; and many nieces and nephews.

Jamie was preceded in death by his daughter, Rachel; father, James; his brother, Randy; and his sister-in-law, Pamela Sue.

A special thank you to the entire nursing staff at Marion General Hospital — all of you were amazing! To Jamie’s personal nurse and bonded sister Shirley, Brad, Heather and the entire family of friends; we cannot express enough our gratitude for the selflessness, love and compassion you provided Jamie. Thank you for bringing so much love and joy these past weeks. He was truly blessed.

Family and friends are invited to call from 5-8 PM on Friday, August 30, 2024, at STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 404 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE, where a Scripture Service will be held at 7:30 PM.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 31, at Epiphany of the Lord Parish, St. Mary of Grace Church, 1085 Water St., Meadville, with Fr. Jeff Lucas, Pastor, officiating.

Jamie will be laid to rest in St. Brigid Cemetery.
