James "Jim" J. Courtney, 94, of Meadville, passed away Thursday, April 8, 2021 at Meadville Medical Center.
Jim was born in Buffalo, NY on July 28, 1926, a son of the late James and Helen (Eddy) Courtney.
On February 3, 1951 Jim married Norine W. Wasmer; she preceded him in death on September 16, 2015.
Jim retired from Wells Fargo, previously known as A.G. Edwards, where he had been employed as a stock broker. A US Navy veteran, Jim served his country from 1944 until his honorable discharge in 1946. He was a member of the Elks BPO #219, and American Legion Post #111. An avid golfer, Jim enjoyed golfing twice a week with his 40 man crew at various golf courses. He looked forward to the semi annual golf outings at Venango Golf Course with his son, Gary, where they enjoyed both the sport and the meal that followed. For many years he and Norine enjoyed traveling to Cape Cod in September, making sure to visit several lighthouses. He enjoyed telling his grandchildren jokes and singing old songs to them. Jim will be remembered as a kind and loving man whose passions in life were his family, golf, and discussing the stock market. He will be sadly missed.
Jim is survived by a son Gary J. Courtney (Anna) of Hyde Park, NY; five loving grandchildren Kristin Courtney, Rachel Cardillo (Jake), Sarah Egerton (Andrew), Matthew Courtney (Libby), Renee Courtney; and a great grandson Brayden James Cardillo.
In addition to his parents and his wife Norine of 64 years, Jim was preceded in death by a son Brian C. Courtney, two sisters Jean Wermuth and Patricia Cobbs.
