James "Jim" Thomas Corner, 89, of Meadville, passed away October 19, 2018, at home.
Jim was born in Leesburg Station, on April 10, 1929, a son of the late Edward Harold and Irene Isabelle (Wright) Corner.
On September 5, 1953 Jim married Eleanor Mae Emig; she preceded him in death on January 7, 1998.
He was of the Methodist faith.
After 39 years of service with Erie, Erie Lackawanna and Conrail Railroads, Jim retired as a Freight Conductor in 1992. Jim entered the US Army on September 10, 1948 and served his country honorably until his discharge on June 16, 1952. Jim was the recipient of the Occupation Medal Japan, Korean Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. He served with the 8th Army Engineer, 598th Engineer Base Depot Company, having served in Japan. During his time there he played baseball and was able to play at Lou Gehrig Stadium. Jim was a 1947 graduate of Cochranton High School. A life member of VFW Post #2006 and Eagles #429, Jim was also a member of Masonic Lodge #234. Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing his guitar.
Jim is survived by two children Ralph Edward Corner, Karen Ann Corner, both of Meadville, two sisters Nellie Jean Peterson (Doyle) of Ocala, FL, Gladys Marie Ashbaugh, a brother Edward Burton Corner (Tracy) both of Hurtsboro, AL, several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his step mother Gladys Rice Corner, brothers John Robert Corner and Harold LeRoy Corner.
Family and friends are invited to call Tuesday from 5-7 PM with a Masonic Service at 6:00 PM and also on Wednesday from 10-11 AM at STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 404 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE, with Funeral Services at 11:00 AM with Rev. Larry Corner, Pastor of Fallowfield United Methodist Church, officiating. Full Military Honors by VFW Post #2006 will follow.
Jim will be laid to rest with his wife in Greendale Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Crawford County, 766 Liberty St. or Yolanda G. Barco Oncology Institute, 16792 Conneaut Lake Road, both in Meadville, PA 16335.
