James Joseph "Jim" Taylor, 75, of Meadville, passed away Thursday, July 21, 2016, at home, surrounded by his family, following a year long battle with cancer.
Jim was born in Weston, WV on April 15, 1941, a son of the late Ernest and Garnet (Schiffbauer) Taylor.
On September 5, 1964 Jim married Catherine Delores "Dee" Post; she survives.
He was affiliated with Trinity United Methodist Church, Conneaut Lake.
Having begun his career with PPG Industries in Clarksburg, WV, Jim retired from the local PPG plant in 2003 after a total of 41 years of service. Following his retirement, Jim worked at both Oakland Beach and Venango Valley Golf Courses. A 1959 graduate of Weston High School, Jim completed US Marine Corps Reserve Training at Camp Lejeune, NC in 1960. Over the years Jim was a member of the Meadville Elks #219, the Italian Civic Club (ICC), West Mead II and VFW #2006. He enjoyed golfing and played in the PPG Golf League at Oakland Beach. For many years in the springtime, he and his PPG golfing buddies took a week long golf trip to Myrtle Beach. He enjoyed vacationing at the beach with his family. Jim was a die hard fan of the West Virginia Mountaineers. A season ticket holder for over 30 years, he looked forward to the football weekends in West Virginia each fall. Although Jim was passionate about golf and the WV Mountaineers, nothing was ever more important to him than his wife, daughter and grandchildren. He was very active in all of his grandchildren's lives; attending sporting events, school functions and dance recitals. He loved every moment spent with them. He will be deeply missed.
In addition to his wife, Dee, of 51 years, Jim is survived by a daughter Jan L. Beck and her husband Daniel L. of Meadville, three grandchildren Alyssa N. Beck, Taylor James "TJ" Beck, Connor L. Beck, a sister Shirlee Alfred of Bridgeport, WV, two brothers Robert "Pete" Taylor and his wife Suzie of Liberty, TX, Jack Taylor and his wife Mary of Rancho Cucamonga, CA, a brother in law Ron Simmons of Weston, WV, several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Family and friends are invited to call on Sunday from 4-8 at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville, where Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, July 25, 2016 with Rev.
