Janet "Jan" Moffit

Janet "Jan" Moffit, 96, of 681 Albright Drive, Meadville, passed away Thursday, June 29, 2017, at Meadville Medical Center.

Jan was born in Chicago, IL on November 15, 1920, a daughter of the late Leo and Frances DeMaria.

On August 11, 1945 Janet married Lt. Robert V. Moffit at South Post, Fort Myer, VA; he preceded her in death on February 25, 1984.

She was an active member of St. Brigid Roman Catholic Church and the Altar Rosary Society.

In 1930 Janet and her family left Illinois and moved to Cudahy, WI. She grew up there and graduated from Cudahy High School. In 1943 Janet enlisted in Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service (WAVES), a unit of the U.S. Naval Reserve which contributed to the WW II efforts. After six weeks of training at Hunter College, NY, Janet was assigned to the Bureau of Ships in Washington, DC. There she met and married Bob. In 1947 she and her husband returned to Meadville to settle down. There they adopted three daughters and raised their family.

Janet retired from the former Crawford County Trust Company. She was a member of the former YWCA, of the Dandylions, and of Meadville Medical Center Auxiliary. Over the years Janet served on several boards including the Board of the former Spencer Hospital and the Board of Family Services. Additionally she volunteered at the former Spencer Hospital and in the gift shop of Meadville Medical Center.

Jan is survived by three daughters, Connie Moffit of Seattle, WA; Eileen Boyer and her husband Bill of Winona, NJ; Maria Lenhart and her husband Lester; four grandchildren, Kristin Rocki and her husband Ben; Robert Long; Mary Janet Weaver and her husband Steven; Corey Boyer; and a sister Beatrice Klug of Illinois.

In addition to her husband, Robert, of 38 years Janet was preceded in death by a brother Mario DeMaria.

Family and friends are invited to call on Monday, July 3, 2017, from 11:30 AM - 12:30 PM at St. Brigid Roman Catholic Church, 383 Arch St., Meadville, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 PM with Fr. Tom Trocchio, Parochial Vicar officiating.

Jan will be laid to rest next to her husband, Robert, in St. Brigid Cemetery, West Mead Twp.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Crawford County, 766 Liberty St., or St. Brigid Church, 383 Arch St., both in Meadville, PA, 16335, or St. Jude's Children Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
