Janet Elizabeth Twiford

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Janet Elizabeth Twiford, who departed this world on June 17, 2024, at Baptist Health Floyd in New Albany, IN. Janet was visiting her oldest daughter when she was unexpectedly called home by the Lord. Her life was a testament to love, kindness, and steadfast faith.

Janet Elizabeth Twiford, born on October 8, 1951, in Saegertown, PA, was the cherished daughter of the late Joseph Edward and Harriet Louise (Dahl) Twiford. Janet's upbringing in Saegertown instilled in her a compassionate spirit dedicated to serving others. In her later years, Janet lived in North Carolina with her youngest daughter, embodying the values of kindness and empathy she was raised with.

After graduating from Saegertown High School and Edinboro University in PA, Janet pursued a career in psychology and sociology, using her knowledge and skills to positively impact the lives of those around her. Her dedication to serving others was evident in her instrumental role in establishing the Meadville, PA pregnancy center (PCOM), a display of her unwavering commitment to helping those in need. Janet's passion for justice and advocacy extended to her involvement in organizing anti-abortion rallies and marches on Washington, D.C., to raise awareness for the rights of all life.

Janet is survived by her three beloved daughters and their families: Elizabeth Schmitz of Borden, IN, (Jeff) and their daughter Graceann Schmitz; April Jennesis-Collet of Kalamazoo, MI, (Corbin) and her children Tracy, Jenna, and Brendan Kelley; and Alissa Pereira of Indian Trail, NC, (John) and their children Isabel and Jacob Pereira.

Janet's grandchildren were her source of joy and purpose. Every moment together was filled with love, care, and her passion for cooking, creating lasting memories of happiness for her family.

In addition, Janet is survived by her siblings Warren Twiford (Linda) of NC, Patricia Twiford-Ellis of IL, and Roy Twiford (Peggy) of PA. She is preceded in death by her brother Daniel Twiford of PA.

As a devout Christian, Janet was once a loyal member of the Grace Lutheran Church of New Albany, IN. Her faith was the guiding force in her life, shaping her values and loyal commitment to the teachings of Jesus.

Janet Elizabeth Twiford will be remembered for her strong Christian faith, her dedication to helping others, and her enduring love for her family. Her legacy of kindness and compassion will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her. May she rest in peace, surrounded by the eternal love of the Lord she faithfully served. 

In adherence to Janet's wishes, private services will be held at the convenience of the family.
