Janet Walsh

Janet (Bailey) Walsh, 82, loved her family, loved her community, and is now loving her new life in Heaven. Janet earned her wings on December 9, 2020 after passing away unexpectedly at Meadville Medical Center.

Janet was born May 29, 1938 to Arthur and Cecelia Bailey in Sharon, Pennsylvania. It was there during her high school days she met the love of her life William J. Walsh. She graduated from Sharon High School in 1956.

She attended Allegheny College in Meadville, PA until she married William on June 14, 1958. Janet and William were married 53 years before William passed away in November of 2011. Janet lived in Meadville for 53 years total.

Janet was a devout Catholic and held the Right to Life dear to her heart in her everyday life and prayer even volunteering at the Pregnancy Crisis Center in Meadville. She also was a substitute teacher for St. Brigid’s Elementary and volunteered at Seton School fulfilling many roles. She and William were Eucharistic Ministers for St. Agatha Church in Meadville. They spent many years delivering the Body of Christ to faithful patients in hospitals, nursing homes, and retirement homes. She and William also hosted Renew Group meetings for 20+ years.

Janet was a very active member of organizations and causes during her years in Meadville. She was a member and advisor of Alpha Gamma Delta sorority at Allegheny College. She held several offices with Spencer Hospital Auxiliary and advised Candy Stripers there as well. She worked for various political campaigns, was the Crawford County Republican Chairwoman for 10+ years and helped during numerous election days working the polls. She co-founded Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) at Meadville Area Sr. High School in the late 1970’s. She volunteered with the Cub Scouts/Boy Scouts and was a proud member of the local Navy Mothers organization that helped support our servicemen and women. She was also very active with the Meadville Basketball Boosters in the late 1980's and early 1990's.

Janet enjoyed so many areas of life including sewing with a membership in a local sewing club, scrapbooking, making treats for her loved ones, attending her children's too-many-to-count activities, hosting visits from loved ones and friends, sitting on the front porch with William watching the sun set, and reading, reading, and more reading. She collected books and amassed an impressive library and was a member of the Rota Book Club.

She spent her remaining years at Juniper Village in Meadville where she received wonderful care. Her family appreciates the love, comfort, and support she was shown there.

She is survived by her children Sharon and her husband Tim Asbury, Bill Walsh, Deb and her husband Bill McCafferty, Chris and her husband Dave Mauser, and Jon and his wife Alisa Walsh as well as her sister Marce Strickland and her husband Bob Kryter. She will be missed by her 12 loving grandchildren Connor Asbury, Josh, Luke, and Bella Walsh, Emily, Olivia, and Addie McCafferty, Samantha, Mariah, and Natasha Mauser, and Kalib and Lizzie Walsh.

Her parents, husband, and one son Michael Walsh preceded her in death.
