Janice Marie Gerkey

Janice Marie (Robinson) Gerkey, 71, of 2756 Mercer Pike, Cochranton, passed away Wednesday, January 14, 2015, at Wesbury United Methodist Community, Meadville.
 
Janice was born in Pittsburgh, on July 10, 1943, a daughter of the late LaVernge and Gertrude (Seery) Robinson.
 
On August 24, 1968 Janice married George Gerkey; he survives.
 
She was a member of St. Brigid Roman Catholic Church, Meadville.
 
A 1961 graduate of South Hills High School in Pittsburgh, Janice was also a 1964 graduate of Southside Nursing School in Pittsburgh.  She was employed as a Registered Nurse at various Pittsburgh hospitals, most recently at Suburban General Hospital.  She was an avid reader and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and her pets.
 
In addition to her husband, George, of 46  years, Janice is survived by two children Meaghan Gerkey, Marissa K. Knupp and her husband Joseph, both of Pittsburgh, two step children George Gerkey and his wife Denise of New Castle, Viola Macaulay and her husband Robert of Pittsburgh, eight grandchildren Dana Macaulay, Paul Macaulay, Jessica Gerkey, Eric Gerkey and his wife Tiffany, Gregory Gerkey and his wife Kari, Trenton Gerkey, Kevin Cooper, Vera Knupp, four great grandchildren Sophia Macaulay, Layla Macaulay, Eric Gerkey and Aubri Gerkey.
 
In addition to her parents, Janice was preceded in death by a sister Carole Robinson.
 
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at St. Brigid Roman Catholic Church, 383 Arch St., Meadville, with Fr. Johnathan Schmolt, Pastor, officiating.
 
Janice will be laid to rest in Union Dale Cemetary, Pittsburgh.
 
Memorial contributions may be made to the Benevolent Fund of Hospice of Crawford County, 464 Pine St., Meadville, PA  16335.
 
Arrangements are under the direction of Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville.
