Jennie Schmitz, 92, of 1120 Market St., Apt. 403, Meadville, passed away Thursday, April 26th, 2012 at home.
Jennie was born at home in Fifth Ward, Meadville, on October 29, 1919, a daughter of the late Edward and Theresa (Spinelli) Longo.
She married Edward Schmitz; he preceded her in death in 1975.
She was an active member of St. Mary of Grace Roman Catholic Church, Meadville, and the Altar Rosary Society. For many years she crocheted between 50-100 pair of booties each year for the church Care and Concern Ministry. These booties were delivered to the home bound and residents of nursing homes.
While living in Brooklyn, NY, Jennie was employed in the food service business. While living in the Bronx, for a period of ten years, she cared for and helped to raise the two daughters of Dr. and Dr. Mustafa while they were both working on their residency and well into their careers at the Albert Einstein Hospital in New York City where they were Anesthesiologists. After returning to the Meadville area and being semi retired, she enjoyed helping to raise her grandchildren. Jennie enjoyed being a homemaker. She especially loved cooking as it was her outlet and made her happy.
Jennie is survived by a son Charles Edward Schmitz of Meadville, two grandchildren Shawn Schmitz, Jessica Schmitz, several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Jennie was preceded in death by five sisters Mary Viscusi, Anne LoScalzo, Amelia Longo, Grace Loglisci, Oland DeLorenzo, four brothers Dominick, Richard, Charles and Oscar Longo.
Family and friends are invited to call on Monday from 10-12:30 at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville, PA 16335.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary of Grace Roman Catholic Church, 1085 Water St., Meadville, at 1:00 PM on Monday, April 30th, 2012.
Interment will take place in St. Brigid Cemetery, West Mead Twp.
