Joanna Peters Watson

Joanna Peters Watson, 94, of Meadville, passed away Tuesday, October 31, 2023, at home surrounded by her family.

Joanna was born in Cape May, NJ on January 20, 1929, a daughter of the late C. Arthur and Virginia (Whitling) Battles.

In 1948 Joanna married James Ralph Peters who preceded her in death on November 4, 1984. Subsequently she married David G. Watson in 2000; he preceded her in death on July 6, 2019.

She was of the Catholic faith and attended mass at the area churches.

Joanna was a 1946 graduate of Meadville High School. Shortly after high school, she became employed by the former Talon, Inc. where she worked for two years before getting married and starting her family. From 1963-1967 she worked in the retail store of the family farm that was then know as Roos-Hotson Dairy, which later became Spruce Row Dairy. She then returned to Talon where she became one of the first female employed in the Engineering Department. After her son, Jeff, graduated from college, she left Talon to return to the farm that she loved. Joanna took charge of raising the young stock up until she reached the age of 84. Additionally she lovingly took care of her Aunt Regina and her home. Joanna also had a love for horses and in her younger years enjoyed showing them. Joanna's greatest loves in life, were her family and the farm. She lived to cook, bake, garden, can, care for her family, and live off the farm, and she did it so well. She will be sadly missed.

Joanna is survived by two sons James Douglas "Doug" Peters (Jackie) of Conneaut Lake, Jeffrey M. Peters (Janet) of Meadville; five grandchildren Christopher Peters (Adina Segal), Slade Peters (Candee), Diana Wilkosz (Andrew) Jessica Peters, Cole Peters (Michelle); six great grandchildren; and a half sister Charlotte Shorts (Frank) of Meadville.

In addition to her parents and husbands, Joanna was preceded in death by a brother Charles Battles; a sister Winifred Harroun; and step father Al vander Heyden.

Private services will be held at STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 404 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE, with Dr. Daniel Corll of First Presbyterian Church officiating.

Joanna will be laid to rest in St. Hippolyte Cemetery, Guys Mills.
