Joanne D. Noonen, 92, of Meadville, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 27, 2021, at home surrounded by her family.
Joanne was born in McKeesport, on May 2, 1928, a daughter of the late Grace (Tiernan) Carnahan and Joseph Desent.
On May 16, 1953 Joanne married Richard J. Noonen; he survives.
She was an active member of St. Brigid Roman Catholic Church and the Altar Rosary Society. She volunteered at the fish dinners, worked the funeral lunches, and served as a church greeter.
A 1946 graduate of McKeesport High School, Joanne earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Home Economics from Drexel Institute of Technology. Shortly after, Joanne became employed by the Meadville office of Penn State Cooperative Extension as a home economist. She transitioned to teaching Physical Education at the former Randolph School in Guys Mills until the birth of her daughters. In 1968 the family moved to Hornell, NY, due to her husband's employment. She became employed as a Home Economics teacher in Canaseraga, NY, before transferring to Hornell Middle School and retiring in 1985 from Hornell School District. For many years Joanne delivered Meals on Wheels and served as a judge of baked and canned goods for Home Show Building #1 at the Crawford County Fair. Joanne loved spending the summers at the family cottage at Loon Lake in Wayland, NY. Whether cooking, baking or canning, Joanne loved being in the kitchen. Holidays with family especially showcased her kitchen skills, and Joanne delighted in the celebrations with laughter and good times. She will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother who loved her family dearly. She will be sadly missed.
In addition to her husband, Richard, of 67 years, Joanne is survived by two daughters Dr. Ann Noonen of Meadville, Mary Carol Scrocco (Ret. Col. Raymond K.) of Clarence Center, NY; two grandchildren Kelly Ann Scrocco, a registered nurse in Boston, MA, and John Raymond Scrocco, a student at Georgetown University.
