John Cap

John Cap, 84, formerly of Saegertown, entered into eternal rest Thursday, June 2, 2011, at Cambridge Springs Rehab and Nursing Center.
He was born on March 1, 1927, the seventh child of Michael and Mary Cap in Monesson, PA. The family moved to the Edinboro area in 1931.
John married Helen Yocina on Oct. 8, 1949 who preceded him in death, Sept. 17, 2000.He graduated from Edinboro High School in 1945 and continued working on the family farm until the fall of 1948 when he hired out on the Erie Railroad, working as switchman-yard conductor in the Meadville yard, until his retirement from Conrail in 1986. John was drafted into the 712th Transportation Battalion and served in the Korean conflict from 1952-1954. He was honorably discharged from the reserves in 1960. John was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Orthodox Church in Crossingville. He served on Church Council in several capacities and was the caretaker of the cemetery for 49 years. He was a former member of the Crossingville Athletic Club (local baseball league), the Eagles, VFW Venango Post 169 and several golf and bowling leagues through the years. Additional pastimes of John included hunting, ice fishing, traveling, camping, gardening, raising beef cattle, playing cards, the Pittsburgh Pirates, but above all was his Church and family.John is survived by a son John Andrew 'Andy' Cap and his wife Jane of Waterford, a daughter Barbara Ann Hargett and her husband Paul of Saegertown, two grandchildren Darren Hargett of Saegertown, US Army Sgt. Greg Hargett of Fort Hood, TX, seven step-grandchildren, nine step-great grandchildren, three sisters Kate Firer of Cambridge Springs, Helen Sima and her husband Paul of North Olmsted, OH, Irene Hemphill and her husband Jack of Sacramento, CA, a brother Paul Cap and his wife Carolyn of Placentia, CA, many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, Helen, of over 50 years, John was preceded in death by three brothers Steve Cap, Mike Cap, Frank Cap, two sisters Ella Cap and Ann Madar.
Family and friends are invited to call on Sunday from 1-4 at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 330 Broad Street, Saegertown and from 6-9 at Saints Peter and Paul Orthodox Church, 25636 N. Mosiertown Rd., Edinboro, where a Burial Service will be conducted at 7:00 PM
The Divine Liturgy will be held at Saints Peter and Paul Church on Monday, June 6, 2011, at 10:00 AM with Fr. Dennis Hendershot, Pastor, officiating.
Interment with Full Military Honors by Venango V.F.W. Post #169, will take place at St. Peter and Paul Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either the Building Fund or Cemetery Fund of Saints Peter and Paul Orthodox Church, 25636 N. Mosiertown Rd., Edinboro, PA 16412.
