John E. Bowler, a resident of Meadville, passed away on Thursday, March 28, 2013 at Meadville Medical Center.
John was born in Buffalo, NY, the son of the late Arthur M. and Zoe E. (Ryerson) Bowler.
He graduated from Meadville High School and while attending John Carroll University, John enlisted in the US Navy and served in the Pacific Theater during World War II. John retired from General Electric Co., Erie, and officially retired in 1982 from the US Navy Reserves aboard the Brig Niagara.
In addition to his wife Patricia, John is survived by a son, Charles E. Bowler and his wife Christine of Millcreek, a daughter Dr. Kathleen A. Bowler of Shadyside and a grandson, Nicholas, C. Bowler of State College.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by a son James Michael Bowler and an infant sister.
No calling hours will be held. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Brigid Roman Catholic Church, 383 Arch St., Meadville, at 10:30 AM on Monday, April 1, 2013, with Fr. Johnathan Schmolt, Pastor, officiating.
Interment with Full Military Honors by VFW Post 2006 will take place in St. Brigid Cemetery, West Mead Twp.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the YMCA, 356 Chestnut St., Meadville, PA 16335, where John enjoyed his many friends and 'Y activities.
Arrangements are under the direction of Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville.
