John J. Wehrle, 70, of 16107 State Hwy. 86, Saegertown, passed away Wednesday, September 28th, 2011, at UPMC-Hamot Medical Center, Erie.
John was born at home, in Geneva, on October 8, 1940, a son of the late Joseph John and Eileen (Hafer) Wehrle Miller.
On February 8, 1969 John married Peggy K. Stanley; she survives.
He was a member of Saegertown United Methodist Church where he served as the Chairperson of the Pastor Parish Relations Committee (PPRC).
From 1976 until the present time, John was owner and president of Area Tool & Manufacturing, Inc., Meadville. Prior to that he had been employed by Saegertown Manufacturing Corp. (SMC) and the former Talon, Inc., of Meadville where he was a journeyman tool maker. Following his 1958 graduation from Conneaut Lake High School, John entered the US Navy where he served until his honorable discharge on October 6, 1961. John had served on the Planning Commission at Woodcock Township and volunteered as Assistant Scout Master for Boy Scout Troop 254. He was a Blue Lodge member of Masonic Lodge #408. John was also a member of the Zem Zem Shrines Club of Erie, Meadville Elks Club and the Iroquois Boating and Fishing Club, Conneaut Lake. A lifelong Pittsburgh Steelers enthusiast, John was also a devoted Penn State fan. An avid outdoors man, he loved hunting, fishing, spending time at his Sheffield camp, traveling, especially to Jackson Hole, WY, on his annual hunting trip. His greatest love in life was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He will be remembered as an excellent and most loving husband, dad and papa.
In addition to his wife Peggy of 42 years, John is survived by two children Joshua 'Josh' Wehrle and his wife Deana of Guys Mills, Ashleigh A. Smith and her husband Kevin P. of Meadville, three grandchildren twins Sophie and Jaden Wehrle, Bryce J. Smith, a sister Mary Edith Schwartzbauer and her husband Paul of Meadville.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his stepfather Ernie Miller.
Family and friends are invited to call on Saturday from 3-7 at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville and on Sunday from 1-2 at Saegertown United Methodist Church, 620 Euclid Ave., Saegertown, where Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM with Rev. Kenneth Custer, Pastor, officiating.
Interment will take place in Geneva Memorial Cemetery, Greenwood Twp.
Memorial Contributions may be made to a charity of the donors choice.
