John L. Guest

John L. Guest, 84, of 7386 Sugar Lake Rd., Cochranton, passed away Tuesday, August 17th, 2010 at Meadville Medical Center.
John was born in Munhall on May 2, 1926, a son of the late Joseph and Mary Emma (Parks) Guest.
On May 29, 1971 John married Elisabeth C. Brych; she survives.
He was a member of St. Hippolyte Roman Catholic Church, Frenchtown.
In 1988 John retired as the Art Director of Mr. Rogers Neighborhood where he had been employed since 1969. During that time he also did free lance work for set designs for WQED. From February of 1952 until August of 1955 John was employed as Director of the Art Dept. of WDTV and continued as Director of the Art Dept. for KDKA-TV until February of 1967. Following his graduation from Munhall High School, he attended art school in Pittsburgh. John entered the US Army Air Corp where he served his country from March 18 1944 until his honorable discharge on July 19, 1946. He was the proud recipient of the Good Conduct Medal, the EAME Campaign Medal and the WW II Victory Medal.
A very talented artist, John enjoyed painting with water colors, pastels, acrylic and oil paints. He also enjoyed fishing, the sport of archery, and building his home. He was a former member of the American Legion.
In addition to his wife Elisabeth of 39 years, John is survived by a sister Katherine Edwards and her husband Wade of Riverton, Utah, three nieces, seven nephews, several great nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his brother Joseph Guest.
Family and friends are invited to call on Thursday from 2-5 at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville, PA 16335 where a scripture service will be conducted at 2:00 PM.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Hippolyte Roman Catholic Church, Frenchtown, at 11:00 AM on Friday, August 20th, 2010 with Rev. Dennis Veltri, Pastor, officiating. Full Military Honors will take place following the Mass.
Interment will take place in St. Hippolyte Cemetery.
Memorial Contributions may be made to any local Veteran organization that supports our men and women in uniform.
