John Palmer, Jr.

John Palmer, Jr., 92, of 20881 State Hwy., 198 Saegertown, formerly of 372 Davis St., Meadville, passed away Sunday, November 7th, 2010 at Crawford County Care Center, Saegertown.
John was born in Erie on August 28, 1918, a son of the late John P. and Margaret (Rutherford) Palmer.
John married Thelma Stainbrook; she preceded him in death.
He was of the Protestant Faith.
John retired from Cummings Tool Shop where he worked as a polisher. He had previously been employed by Palmer Wellock Tool. A veteran of the US Army during WW II, John served his country from March 4, 1942 until his honorable discharge on January 17, 1946. During his tour he served as a machine gunner, a truck driver and had been stationed at Fort Knox. He was a member of the Meadville Eagles Club and of VFW Post #2006. An avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan, he also enjoyed hunting, fishing, drinking coffee and beer.
John is survived by several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, John was preceded in death by three brothers Richard, William and Charles Palmer.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM at Stephen P Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville, on Friday, November 12, 2010 with Pastor David M. Meckley, Pastor of High Street Community Church, Conneaut Lake, officiating
Interment with full military honors by VFW Post #2006 will take place at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Meadville.
