Joseph A. Frisina

Joseph A. Frisina, 83, of 31 N. Park Ave., Meadville, formerly of 557 Chestnut St., Meadville, passed away Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at Wesbury United Methodist Community.

Joseph was born in Meadville, on October 28, 1933, a son of the late Anthony and Theresa A. (Sherry) Frisina.

On June 15, 1965, Joe married Arbuta Arlene Smith; she preceded him in death on November 5, 2014.

He was a member of Our Lady Queen of the Americas, Conneaut Lake.

Joe had been employed in the grocery business for over 40 years, starting in 1955 at the former Krogers Grocery Store where he worked for the next 31 years. Following the closing of Krogers in the mid 1980's, Joe went on to work at Valesky's Grocery Store for the next 10 years. He continued to work part-time for the former Flowers by Lynda Flower Shop for the next 8 years. A graduate of the Vocational School in 1953, Joe went on to serve his country in the US Army until his honorable discharge on May 11, 1955. An avid golfer, Joe started at the age of 10 as a caddie and shortly after that picked up playing the game. For the next 70 years he would play weekly and was able to shoot a hole in one.

Joe is survived by two sons, Joseph Frisina and his wife Michelle of Michigan, John Burkhardt of Colorado two grandchildren Amanda Frisina of Michigan, John Burkhardt of Colorado, a sister in law Alva Feldman and her husband Marvin of Shaker Heights, OH, and nieces.

In addition to his parents and his wife Arbuta of 49 years, Joe was preceded in death by, a sister Geraldine Valella and a daughter-in-law Bess Burkhardt.

Family and friends are invited to call on Thursday, June 22, 2017, from 10:30-1:00 at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 1:30 at St. Mary of Grace Roman Catholic Church, 1085 Water St., Meadville, with Fr. Tom Trocchio, Parochial Vicar, officiating.

Joe will be laid to rest next to his wife, Arbuta, in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Vernon Twp., with Full Military Honors by VFW Post #2006.
