Joseph Reynolds Chase

Joseph Reynolds Chase, affectionately known as Joe, passed away November 25, 2024 at the Crawford Care Center in Saegertown at the age of 81. 

Born on August 13, 1943 in Meadville, PA Joe was a lifelong resident of Crawford County. 

Joe graduated from Meadville Area Senior High School in 1961 and promptly enlisted in the United States Army until his Honorable Discharge in 1964. After his military service, Joe embarked on a career with the Meadville Edition of the Erie Times News where he dedicated 24 years to ensuring Crawford County got their papers. After retiring from the Times, Joe worked at Cutter’s in Meadville doing odd jobs and the Crawford County Courthouse as Security.

Joe was of the Christian Faith and a member of Park Congregational Church. He will be remembered as the kindest soul who always had ready wit to help someone smile and always ready to give a helping hand. 

As a dedicated family man, he was married to his wife Cathie Severo on September 6th, 1969. He is also survived by his daughter Cathi-jo Muma (Jim); grandson Allen Phillips; and great-granddaughter Aubrey Phillips. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edna Louise and Joseph Alton Chase as well as his in-laws from the Severo family. 

Joe was passionate about his dog Crystal, and all animals alike. He was known for meticulously tending his lawn and property bringing happiness to his family and neighbors alike. 

The family has entrusted STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 404 CHESTNUT ST., Meadville with his final arrangements. He wished to have no services at his time of passing. His family will celebrate his life from 1-4 PM on August 9th, 2025, at Lew Davies Community Center, Meadville, where friends and family will gather to celebrate the wonderful soul he was.
