Judith “Judy” Ann Newhook, 59, of 14100 Dickson Rd., Meadville, passed away Sunday, October 25, 2015, at Yale-New Haven Hospital, New Haven, CT.
Judy was born in Toronto, Canada, on December 12, 1955, a daughter of the late Joseph Eric and Bessie “Betty” Arita (Randell) Stafford.
On September 1, 1979, Judy married Dr. Lawrence Newhook; he survives.
A truly amazing and wonderful woman, nothing was more important to Judy than her family; everyone Judy met became part of her family. One of the multitude of qualities Judy will be remembered for most was her generosity. It was this and her warm, loving personality that endeared her to all. While in high school in Canada, Judy shared several classes with Lawrence and their fairy-tale romance began with an invitation to the Senior Prom. These high school sweethearts attended McMaster University together in Hamilton, Ontario, and Judy graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Humanities. As a Flight Attendant with Air Canada, Judy’s fluency in multiple languages resulted in a predominance of international flights, which allowed her to broaden her family’s appreciation of the world. Judy loved all wildlife, exemplified by her rescuing and caring for all animals. Her philanthropic nature shined with her fervent support of numerous animal rescue charities, medical societies, and community organizations. Judy was the consummate sports fan as a Pittsburgh Penguins season ticket holder and Meadville Bulldog hockey mother. The world would be a better place if everyone had a mother, wife, and friend like Judy.
In addition to her husband, Dr. Newhook, of 36 years, Judy is survived by two sons Timothy Eric Newhook and his wife Alexandra of Charlottesville,VA, Jonathan Lawrence Newhook and his wife Rhonda of Peterborough, NH, a daughter Alana Christine Newhook of Dallas, TX, a sister Katherine Patricia Mergl and her husband Robert Alan of Lebanon, OH, two brothers William Charles Stafford and his wife Debbie of Oakville, Ontario, Joseph Wayne Stafford and his wife Christine of Atlanta, GA. Her Granddaughter Grace Ann, daughter of Tim and Alex, was the most recent light in her life.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Betty Stafford.
Family and friends are invited to call on Sunday from 1-3 and 5-7 at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville, where a Celebration of Life Service will be held at 7:00 PM.
Funeral Services will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 890 Liberty St., Meadville, at 11:00 AM on Monday, November 2, 2015, with Rev. David Perry officiating.
