Junior H. Smith, 90, of 31 N. Park Ave., Meadville, formerly of 881 North Street, Meadville, passed away on Monday, May 15, 2017 at Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community.
Junior was born at home in New Richmond Twp., on June 15, 1926, a son of the late Alva F. and Ruth B. (Henry) Smith.
On April 24, 1943 Junior married Theresa T. Tartaglione; she survives.
Junior retired from C & J Industries where he had been employed for eight years. He previously had been employed by the former Lou Davies and Smith-Gray Automobile Dealerships, each for 13 years. A veteran of the US Marine Corp, both during WW II and the Korean Conflict, Junior served his country honorably until his final discharge on October 22, 1952. He was an active member of Masonic Lodge #408, Zem Zem Temple, Kismet Grotto and the Crawford County Motor Patrol. Junior held life memberships in the New Castle Consistory, Crawford County Shrine Club, American Legion #205, VFW Post #2006, Meadville Elks #219, Meadville Eagles Aerie Club and was a member of both West Mead II and Vernon Central Volunteer Fire Departments.
In addition to his wife Theresa of 74 years, Junior is survived by a daughter Nancy Evans and her husband Lee of Jacksonville, FL, two granddaughters Laura Evans of Jacksonville, FL, Kimberly Evans McDonald and her husband Luke of Los Angeles, CA, a great grandson Rigby Scott McDonald, a sister Esther Randall and her husband Paul of North Vernon, IL, nine nieces and nephews.
Junior was preceded in death by his parents, Ruth and Alva Smith, a sister Evelyn Mulvihill and a brother Clyde D. Smith.
Family and friends are invited to call on Thursday, May 18, from 2-5 at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville, where a service will be conducted at 4 PM by Meadville Elks BPO #219 and a service at 5 PM by Masonic Lodge #408.
Junior will be entombed in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Vernon Twp.
A Memorial Service will be held in June, at a time and date which will be announced. Full Military Honors will take place.
Memorial contributions may be made in Junior's name to Shriners Hospital of Erie, 1645 W. 8th Street, Erie, PA 16505 or Meadville Elks #219 Scholarship Fund, 15438 State Hwy 86, Meadville, PA 16335.
