Karen M. Henderson

Karen Marlene Henderson, 68, of 16488 Harmonsburg Rd., Meadville, passed away Sunday, October 12, 2014, at home.

Karen was born in Leechburg, on July 14, 1946, a daughter of the late Edmund 'Pete' and Nellie (Shaner) Jones.

On April 27, 1968 Karen married Miles G. Henderson; he survives.

She was an active member of St. Brigid Roman Catholic Church where she taught CCD as well as volunteered working the fish and roast beef dinners.

In 2005 Karen retired from Caldwell Banker Real Estate due to health reasons. She had previously been employed by Gildea Construction Company, Realty Settlement and for the former Talon, Inc. of Meadville. Prior to moving to Meadville in 1972 she was employed by Allegheny Ludlum Steel in Leechburg. She was a 1964 graduate of Kiski High School, Leechburg, just the second graduating class of the school. In 1992 she obtained her Realtors License. She was a member of the Meadville Board of Realtors, the Meadville Image Committee, the Welcome Wagon and served as President of the Meadville Area Boys Choir. She participated in the Charity Follies, and initiated and coordinated the Prom Till Dawn at Meadville High School. She enjoyed cooking and had a great love for animals especially her two Bichon Frises Wicket and Bugs and her labs Gretchen, Abby and Coco. She equally loved her cat Sebastian. Karen will be missed by all that knew and loved her.

In addition to her husband, Miles (Greg), of 46 years, Karen is survived by four children Erin Gregory Henderson of Meadville, Sean Patrick Henderson and his wife Gretchen of Seattle, WA, Ryan Matthew Henderson and his companion Alyson Wert of Sanbury, Brad Allen Henderson also of Sunbury, a sister Kay Leech of Leechburg, two sisters in law Kathleen Henderson of Kittanning, Mareen Sagrati of Harwick, six nieces and nephews, several great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Family and friends are invited to call on Tuesday from 3-5 and 6-8 at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville, where a scripture service will be held at 3:00 PM.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Brigid Roman Catholic Church, 383 Arch St., Meadville, at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 with Fr. Matthew Kujawinski officiating.

Karen will be laid to rest in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Vernon Twp.
