Katherine "Kay" B. Melville

Katherine "Kay" B. Melville of Auburn, AL, formerly of Saegertown, passed away February 18, 2016 in Auburn, AL. 

She was born December 15, 1919 in Townville. 

She married Donald Melville in Townville on April 15, 1939.  Her husband of 72 years died in September 2011.

Kay is survived by her son, Donald Scott Melville and his wife Julie of Pensacola, FL and by her son, Joel Melville and his wife Judy of  Auburn.  Her grandchildren are Kristin Hicks and her husband Danny of Auburn and Greg Melville and his wife Ellen of Birmingham.  She has six great grandsons:  Nathan, Caleb, and Wesley Hicks, and Scott, Todd, and Harris Melville.  She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Grace Roberts of Tallmadge, OH and many nieces and nephews. 

Before moving to Auburn in 2005 Kay was a longtime resident of Saegertown, and was active in the United Methodist Church and as a community volunteer, particularly with the Saegertown Heritage Society.  She was official scorer and business manager of the first Little League Baseball team in Saegertown in 1954.

To provide educational opportunity for her sons, Kay found employment intended to be temporary at the local office of the recently arrived young physician in the little town.  For 27 years she remained receptionist, nurse, accountant, and friend in the Saegertown office of Gerald Brooks, MD.

Kay was an avid reader, a legendary pie baker, and an accomplished and prolific quilter.   “…remember always the quilters and their special legacy, a homemade treasure from the heart - stitched so lovingly.”

In her failing years Kay was often lost in fading memories of her childhood. Throughout, she remained agreeable and kind.

A Memorial Service will be held at a future date, which will be announced.
