Kevin James Nicholson

Kevin James Nicholson, 65, of Meadville, died Thursday, April 13, 2023 at The Cleveland Clinic.

Born in Meadville on December 28, 1957, he was a son of Rosemary Davidson Nicholson (Thomas) and the late James R. Nicholson.

Kevin was a 1975 graduate of Meadville Area Senior High School. He started his career as a disc jockey at WMGW and subsequently became the News Director at WEOZ. He was also employed part time as the local reporter/cameraman for WJET-TV in Erie for thirteen years. In 1993, Kevin assumed a position with the Crawford County Public Safety Department, where he was eventually named Public Safety Director. He remained in that position until his retirement in 2020.

Kevin was enamored with fire engines from a very young age. His fascination continued to grow after his family took him to visit the American LaFrance Fire Truck Company. As an adult he served as a volunteer fireman for several years. Kevin was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers and Penguins fan and possessed a massive collection of memorabilia for both teams. He enjoyed watching Steelers games with family, especially with his Uncle Bud. Kevin was well known for his epic Christmas in July pool parties at his home, which were enjoyed by countless family and friends. He was also a lifelong fan of country music, which one could typically hear playing when visiting him. Kevin was exceptionally talented at carpentry and built multiple decks in the Meadville area, including his own multi-tiered deck complex. Above all else, Kevin very much valued time with family and friends.

He is survived by his mother, Rosemary Thomas, his sister, Kathleen Mahon and her husband Daniel of Wexford, his brothers, Brian Nicholson of Conneaut Lake and Jeffrey Nicholson of Meadville, and his nieces, Claire Nicholson, and Shea and Delainey Mahon, his aunt, Geraldine Kightlinger, his uncle, James Stewart, his cousins, Susan Troutner and her husband Gary, Cynthia Yoder and her husband Scott, and Robert Kightlinger. He is also survived by two stepsisters, Sally Pedon and Carrie Thomas and her husband David Farrington, and step sister-in-law, Susan Thomas.

He was preceded in death by his father, his step-father, P. Richard Thomas, his brother, Mark Nicholson, his infant sister, his aunts, M. Gleyn Hinds and Kathryn Stewart, his uncle, Kenneth Kightlinger, his cousin-in-law, Maureen Kightlinger, his maternal grandparents Raymond and Rita Davidson, paternal grandparents, William and Marie Nicholson, and step brother David Thomas..
